The theme for the 2024 Council Winter Work Session was Frisco Forever. If we want to be a city that stands the test of time, we can’t fall behind or become a “has-been.” However, we also don’t need to change for change’s sake. What’s the fine line in between, where we are growing, improving, and continuously leading the way?
Frisco has already been innovating in many ways, but one of our new 2024 Priorities is an Innovation Ecosystem. What does that mean?
We dove into the concept of Innovation by discussing Matt Ridley’s book, “How Innovation Works.” Here are my top five key points that helped shape this new strategy and focus for 2024.
1. Innovation is not one single thing, event, or an invention. It is a mindset.
2. Innovation requires a network; it is a collective phenomenon that happens between brains, not within.
3. The simplest ingredient of innovation is improbability; it is the unlikely yet ingenious combinations that seem obvious in retrospect, but impossible to predict at the time.
4. Innovation is contagious.
5. To do the same things more quickly or for less energy, there must be an environment of liberty and prosperity.
In 2024, Frisco will be stepping up our focus not just on innovation itself, but creating an entire ecosystem that engages all departments and our whole community. With the positive energy, staff expertise, and bold vision of Team Frisco (and yes, that includes YOU!), anything is possible! 💫
