WHY Tammy?
A recognized change maker and transformational leader, I have a 10+ year proven track record of positive community impact and building strong collaborations across nonprofit, corporate, civic, regional, and national partners to deliver extraordinary results.
As a former public school English teacher, professional musician, nonprofit executive, and business consultant, I possess a variety of skills to work successfully with many cross-sector teams, from students to CEO's, and everyone in between.
Named the 2017 Spirit of Frisco by the Frisco Chamber of Commerce, I exemplify a true passion for people, their stories, and connecting the dots to solve problems together. I believe relationships are the key to getting things done, and there's always a way to get to "yes."
With our children getting older and heading to college, I have the time, energy, and heart for service that is best for Frisco. I am proud that my innovative community work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, D CEO Magazine, Dallas Morning News, WFAA, Frisco STYLE Magazine, Community Impact Newspaper, Frisco Enterprise, KERA, KRLD, Korea Daily News, and multiple Frisco media outlets. But I'm not resting yet; there's too much left to do!
When you take a look at the Top 10 Priorities established by the Frisco City Council for 2022, you'll see five with a strong emphasis on items focused on Quality of Life to create a world-class city:
-
Grand Park
-
Trail Connectivity
-
Tourism (Events, Sports, and Live Music)
-
Downtown Entertainment Destinations
-
Performing Arts Center
The truth is, Arts and Culture is a tax base; it's the future. With Frisco seeing a 60% increase in population from 2010-2018, the demand for a vibrant arts scene only continues to grow. We must address the #1 reason people leave Frisco, which is for arts and culture options, according to the latest Visit Frisco study. If we don't tackle this issue head-on with bold moves, we will struggle to capture corporate relocations and people will still leave Frisco to find what they want. The intersection of the arts and civic service is my sweet spot, and I am the right person at the right time to join the City Council and fulfill the 2022 priorities.
With my institutional knowledge and genuine love of arts, culture, and diversity, I'm ready to build upon our existing cultural assets and take Frisco to the next level.
Since moving to Frisco from Chicago in 2004, I have witnessed the incredible growth here due to our excellent schools, business-friendly environment, unrivaled public safety, and top-notch city services. There is a reason Frisco is named the #1 Best Place to Live by Money Magazine, and that's why you're all here too.
One of the strongest differentiators for Frisco is our public-private partnerships. Though I have not served as a public official throughout my decade of community service, I have an unmistakeable history of building partnerships and was awarded the 2018 Spirit of Collaboration by the Junior League of Collin County for teaming up with over 100 local businesses, organizations, and nonprofits to benefit our community. I don't just talk about the importance of partnerships; I make them happen.
Looking forward, public-private partnerships will still be the secret sauce that allows us to create superior facilities and spaces while not imposing a tax burden on our residents. I would also like to see Frisco become a designated Cultural Arts District to receive additional state funds. If Plano, McKinney, Denton, and Dallas all have this designation; there's no reason Frisco can't. It will require a collaborative spirit and working with our local arts community to make it happen, and I'm the right person to get that job done.
